25 days.
Further thoughts on Worlds...even though I haven't really watched a lot of it...except for ice dance...
Patrick Chan takes his second World title. You go, PChan! And Kevin Reynolds hung onto 12th and that secured Canada three spots at next year's competition. I hope that one of those spots will belong to Jeremy Ten. :D
That's pretty much it.
To the surprise of absolutely no one, Amelie Lacoste fails to place in the top ten and thus, Canada -still- has only one spot in Ladies next year. Paging, Joannie Rochette. We need you!
My heart goes out to Alissa Czisny though. Ouch. What a tough year for her. :( Nice to see Ashley Wagner place 4th! I'm looking forward to seeing her at Stars on Ice.
I caught the last couple groups for the short program and was pretty bummed for Volosozhar/Trankov. Despite their shitty programs, I love them. Their throws and their twist are HUGE.
Missed the free skate, thanks to work and was keeping tabs on the scores from my phone. So pleased that Meagan and Eric held onto 5th place! V/T came out and kicked some ass. Their LP is the only one that I've gotten around to watching. They almost took gold but silver after such a disastrous SP is nothing to sneeze at.
Sending out a big WTF to Skate Canada for choosing to send Jess/Seb to Worlds. 4CC was a disaster. Worlds was a disaster. Jessica decided to go for the petulant child routine after bombing the long and threw her bouquet down in the kiss and cry while Sebastien looked vaguely horrified and Annie Barabe stroked her head. THIS IS SCOTT MOIR'S GIRLFRIEND? Scott, you deserve better. I have a hard time believing that Jessica is different than what we've been seeing for so many years now. Tessa would never behave like that. And whether it was intentional or not, wearing a dress so similar to Tessa's red Audrey dress was just lame.
I knew that Tessa and Scott were going to do it. As soon as I saw a video from a short dance practice, I fucking knew it. They looked so happy and relaxed and ready to do it. After they placed first in the short dance, I couldn't miss the free. I just couldn't. So I called in sick. (Don't judge me!)
Our third ice dance team, Kharis and Asher placed 13th and I'm so proud of them! They were so cutely excited after finishing the free and had the crowd right behind them. The first free dance that I absolutely loved though was Cappellini/Lanotte. They are adorable. Lovelovelove. When the final warmup group took to the ice was when I started to get nervous. Davis/White skated first and I actually watched them. I hadn't seen their FD since hmmm, Skate America. They skated so well that I was actually a bit surprised that their score was so (relatively) low. It wasn't unbeatable.
Kaitlyn and Andrew were next. If they don't make the Sochi team, I will hurl myself off a cliff. I have no idea how they will ever top Je Suis Malade but I look forward to whatever they have in store for us next. They skated with so much passion that even their coach was in tears at the end. Though they didn't medal, they did move up one spot and finally broke 100 internationally.
Pechalat/Bourzat took the bronze, which doesn't really bother me. I'm glad that they were able to do that on home ice. Not a fan of the team but seeing Kaitlyn running over to hug both of them after their skate was one of the best moments.
I don't really get the appeal of Ilinykh/Katsalapov. Virtue/Moir wannabes? Is she really dating their greasy coach? Gross. She could be a rockstar but I don't think Nikita is on her level at all.
And then, my bbs. It wasn't the skate we were all hoping for and honestly, once they had finished, I didn't know if they had done enough. Their score surprised me, being so high. STILL, they won! I love the fan cam video of the kiss and cry and interview that followed. After giving the interview, they take a moment to share a hug before heading off to hug Meryl and Charlie before the victory ceremony.
Times like this, guys, that I have a really hard time buying your "We're not a couple!" routine.
Up next, World Team Trophy and then, two more seasons! My heart fairly exploded with glee at Tessa and Scott talking about programs for next season and Sochi. :D :D I'm notorious for losing interest in things but it's been two years now with T/S. Maybe by the time Sochi rolls around, I won't be as fannish and will return with a vague, "Are they fucking yet?" but who knows.
